“I have seen the most profound decrease in anxiety and panic attacks while working with Laurie. She brings together her expertise in counseling, training in therapy and compassionate and easy-going personality into a safe place to heal. She gives you space to reflect and provides thoughtful feedback. Laurie gives you her full, undivided attention and respects her appointment times.”

Telemedicine / COVID Practices

Teletherapy or telehealth is remote therapy using technology, such as video conferencing, for sessions. During telemedicine consultations my health care provider can provide services such as psychotherapy, appointment scheduling, payment processing, and psychoeducation despite me not being in the same room as my health care provider. Teletherapy can be as effective as in-person therapy.

If your appointment is by telehealth, please complete the consent document and expect specific instructions regarding how to enter to the virtual waiting room.

COVID Practices For In-Person Sessions

While most of our sessions are currently being offered by teletherapy, we continue to monitor both CDC recommendations and Virginia mandates to inform our protocols for face-to-face meetings. Our office’s safety precautions in effect to protect our patients and help reduce the spread of the coronavirus include:

  • Office seating in the waiting room and in therapy rooms arranged for appropriate physical distancing.

  • Staff and patients wear masks in common areas.

  • Staff and patients maintain safe distancing.

  • Restroom soap dispensers are maintained and everyone is encouraged to wash their hands.

  • Hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol is available in the therapy rooms and the waiting room reception counter.

  • Appointments are scheduled at specific intervals to minimize the number of people in the waiting room.

  • All patients are asked to wait in their cars or outside until no earlier than 5 minutes before their appointment times.

  • Hepa filters are in use in therapy rooms.

  • Clean sheets may be provided as a barrier for seating on couches or fabric chairs in therapy rooms. Freshly sanitized hard plastic chairs are available too, if you prefer.

  • Credit card pads, pens and other items that are commonly touched are sanitized after each use.

  • Physical contact is not permitted.

  • Tissues and trash bins are easily accessed. Trash is disposed of on a frequent basis.

  • Common areas are regularly cleaned and disinfected.
